Back to prison for NL man rearrested before probation began

Jacob Isaac Komarow, 23, of San Diego, Calif., was charged July 9 with possession of a controlled substance.

Judith O. Alaconis, 79, of Guilford was charged July 7 with evading responsibility.

Johnathan Golart, 33, of 18 Rainbow Drive, Uncasville, was charged July 4 with second-degree failure to appear in court.

Rosaria Merizier, 25, of 495 Laurel Hill Ave., 16B, was charged Saturday with third-degree assault.

Justin Bleau, 29, of 924 Fourth St. was charged July 6 with third-degree assault and breach of peace.

Natavya Jacobs, 18, of 30 C Hamilton Ave. was charged Monday with breach of peace and risk of injury to a minor.

Antonio Acevedo, 30, of 44 Williams St. was charged Monday with three counts of criminal violation of a protective order and one count of criminal violation of a restraining order.

Waterford

A New London man who was rearrested on marijuana charges in two incidents last summer, one before his probation for a robbery case had officially started, was sentenced Monday in New London Superior Court to 10 months in prison.

Cevon Riley, 20, is being held at the Manson Youth Institute for violation of probation.

In July 2018, Riley was sentenced to two years in prison followed by five years of probation for his role in a botched, marijuana-related robbery at the 99 Restaurant in Groton in 2016 that ended with a nonfatal shooting. Riley was 17 when police say he and a schoolmate planned to rob another teen of an ounce of marijuana. They drove to the restaurant in a stolen car, and police said Riley’s friend shot the robbery victim. The 17-year-old victim survived.

Riley pleaded guilty to second-degree robbery and was sentenced July 17, 2018, to eight years in prison, suspended after two years served, followed by five years of probation.

He had served time while his case was pending and was free on short-term transitional supervision from the Department of Correction, but had not yet started probation, when he was arrested on marijuana charges on Sept. 20, 2018.

New London police said they seized about 3.3 ounces of marijuana and $142 from Riley during a compliance check at 83 Blackhall St. He was charged with possession of marijuana, possession of marijuana with intent to sell and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Riley was released from custody on Sept. 24, 2018, after posting his bond, and his probation in the robbery case began, according to a warrant written by Probation Officer Terry Granatek.

On Oct. 4, Riley signed a form indicating he understood the conditions of his release. Three days later, on Oct. 7, he was arrested again on marijuana distribution charges.

Police said they pulled a vehicle over near Blackhall and Belden streets in New London because its driver failed to grant the right of way at the intersection. They said Riley, one of two passengers, ran from the car and was pursued by officers on foot.

Police said they recovered 2.2 ounces of marijuana packaged for street-level sales, a scale and packaging material he had tried to discard. Riley was charged with possession of marijuana, possession of marijuana with intent to sell and interfering with an officer.

Riley resolved all of his cases Monday by admitting to a violation of probation. He will continue to serve the original five years of probation once he is released from the 10-month prison stint.
