Warrant remains sealed in New London school sex case
Allegations against Jevon Elmore came to light during ongoing probe
The court document detailing the sexual assault charges against former New London track coach and paraprofessional Jevon Elmore will remain sealed through Sept. 10 while the state continues its investigation.
Elmore, 25, of 905 Bank St., charged in May with second-degree sexual assault, is free on a $150,000 bond. He has pleaded not guilty and is represented by attorney William T. Koch Jr. During an appearance Wednesday in New London Superior Court, the prosecutor, Sarah W. Bowman, said the investigation is continuing and asked that the arrest warrant affidavit remain sealed.
Judge Hillary B. Strackbein reminded Elmore he is under court order to have no contact with the alleged victim, agreed to continue sealing the affidavit and continued the case to Sept. 10.
Elmore was employed as a paraprofessional at Bennie Dover Jackson Middle School and head coach for the New London High School boys track team. In May 2018, he opened a gym in the city with three former classmates from New London High.
His attorney said Elmore no longer is employed by the school district. He was suspended from his job on May 10 after someone reported that same day to the school’s human resources office that Elmore had inappropriate interaction with a student.
The allegations came to light during an ongoing investigation by New London police stemming from the arrest of former middle school
behavioral specialist Corriche Gaskin. Elmore has no criminal record.
Gaskin is charged with sexually assaulting two middle school students and with recording and sharing sexually explicit videos on his cellphone during the 2016-17 school year. He remains incarcerated and is due in court today.
