First-place Sun head to Minnesota for Game 2 of road trip

- — Day Staff Reports

The Connecticut Sun started a four-game road trip Sunday with a 94-79 victory over the Liberty. Sun head coach Curt Miller is hoping that Game 2 of the trip, against the Minnesota Lynx at 8 p.m. today at the Target Center in Minneapolis, will go just as well.

The Sun, 16-6 and in first place overall in the WNBA after seven straight victories, will head to Las Vegas for a game Sunday and Phoenix on Wednesday before finally returning home on Friday, Aug. 16, for a matchup with Seattle.

Connecticut's last loss was July 10 at Atlanta (78-75).

Courtney Williams scored a season-high 28 points for the Sun against New York. She's averaging just 12 points per game, but has averaged 16.8 points on 27-for-51 shooting over the last four games. Jonquel Jones leads the team with 15.8 points and 10.4 rebounds per game and Jasmine Thomas (11.7 ppg) and Alyssa Thomas (11.0 ppg) are also averaging double figures.

The Sun acquired 6-foot-5 post Theresa Plaisance from the Dallas Wings earlier this week in exchange for first-year post Kristine Anigwe. Plaisance, in her sixth WNBA season, has averaged 17.2 minutes per game this season, starting 12 of 22 games for Dallas.

Minnesota, meanwhile, is 11-11, and looking for back-to-back wins following an 85-69 victory Tuesday vs. Atlanta, which broke a fourgame losing streak. Former UConn All-American Napheesa Collier had 22 points and 11 rebounds and Sylvia Fowles 12 points and 11 rebounds in that game, in which veteran Seimone Augustus made her season debut coming off a knee injury.

The teams have split a pair of games this season, with the Sun winning 85-81 on June 14 in Minnesota and the Lynx claiming a 74-71 win July 6 at Mohegan Sun Arena.

The game will be televised on NESNplus, as well as CBS Sports Network.
