Camel highlights

• The Connecticu­t College women's soccer team fell just short of its bid to qualify for the NCAA tournament. The Camels went 10-5-1 overall but 1-3-1 in their last five games. A 3-2 overtime loss to Williams in the New England Small College Athletic Conference tournament quarterfin­als sealed their fate. They return their top two returning scorers next season in Kat

Norton and Mya Johnson, who combined for 17 of the team's 30 goals. Johnson, a former all-state forward at Old Lyme, had a terrific freshman season, scoring eight goals and adding two assists while starting all 16 games. In her final season, New London's

Mia Santana appeared in 16 games and scored one goal. Conn graduates nine seniors.

Around the region

• Ethan Rose, a sophomore from Montville, has appeared in six games for the Keene State men's soccer team. The Owls (15-61) qualified for the NCAA Division III tournament, receiving an automatic bid by winning the Little East Conference tournament title. They will play Ithaca on Saturday in the first round.

• Norwich Free Academy graduate Troy Maurer is a reserve goalie for the Salve Regina men's soccer team. The Seahawks (14-4-3) won the Commonweal­th Coast Conference tournament title to an an automatic NCAA Division III bid and will play Rowan on Saturday in the first round. Maurer has played in four games, making two starts, and owns a 0.50 goals against average.

• Stonington graduate RJ Parrilla, a freshman, helped set up the game-winning goal in Babson's 1-0 double overtime win over WPI in the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference tourney final. Parrilla gained possession of the ball and fed Youcef Ziad who set up Alex Crompton's volley. The Beavers (14-5-2) will play SUNY Oneonta on Saturday in the first round of the NCAA Div. III tournament. Parrilla has started 17 games and appeared in 20.

• Caroline Wallace, a freshman midfielder from Old Lyme, helped lead the Johnson and Wales University women's soccer team to the NCAA Division III tournament. Wallace has appeared in 18 games, starting three, for the Wildcats (16-6), who visit MIT in the first round on Saturday. JWU beat Saint Joseph's (Me.) 2-1 to win the Great Northeast Athletic Conference tournament crown.

• Junior Megan Brawner, a Ledyard graduate, ran a personal best time of 17 minutes, 56.6, while taking third place at the Northeast Conference women's cross country championsh­ip on Saturday and helping the Blue Devils win their second straight conference title. Her previous top tiime was at 18:21.8.

• UConn senior guard Christian Vital was named to the American Athletic Conference men's basketball weekly honor roll. Vital had 17 points, seven rebounds and seven steals in a season-opening win over Sacred Heart on Friday. His steals total is tied for the second highest single game mark by an AAC player.

• UConn sophomore guard Christyn Williams made the AAC weekly honor roll for women's basketball after contributi­ng 24 points, seven rebounds, three assists and two steals in a season-opener win over California Sunday.

• Former East Lyme standout Stephanie deLaforcad­e is in her second season with the Syracuse women's soccer team. A redshirt sophomore midfielder, she scored her second career goal in a 4-1 loss against nationally-ranked Clemson last month. She has a goal and an assist in 14 games.

• NFA graduate J'Von Brown, a senior offensive lineman, is a member of the Central Connecticu­t State University football team that's tied a school record with nine wins this season. The No. 20 Blue Devils (9-1) have won six straight.

• Montville graduate Lucas Chaude, a junior midfielder, appeared in 15 games off the bench for Eastern Connecticu­t State University men's soccer team and contribute­d four assists. The Warriors went 17-3, losing in the Little East tournament title game.

• East Lyme's Madison Bell, a sophomore libero at Eastern Connecticu­t State University, earned second-team honors on the All-Little East Conference volleyball team.

• UConn senior midfielder Dayonn Harris was named to the American Athletic Conference all-conference first team in men's soccer. The Huskies also placed senior defender Robin Lapert and sophomore midfielder Felix Metzler on the second team while freshman midfielder Ben Awashie and freshman forward

Moussa Wade made the AAC All-Rookie team. Wade was a unanimous selection.
