NOLAN FILES FOR RE-ELECTION BID AS STATE REPRESENTATIVE IN NEW LONDON

New London — New London Democrat Anthony Nolan will seek re-election as state representative for the 39th District, which covers two-thirds of New London.

Nolan registered “Nolan4NL” with the State Elections Enforcement Commission and said in a statement he plans to begin raising funds to qualify for the Citizen’s Election Program, the state’s optional program for public financing. Nolan is a former City Council member and works as a New London police officer.

A challenger has yet to emerge.

Nolan was elected to office in February 2019 during a special election triggered by the resignation of former state Rep. Chris Soto. Nolan secured his seat by winning a four-way race.

A member of the General Assembly’s Appropriations Committee, Nolan said he worked to see state aid to New London schools increased by more than $1 million, championed the $15 minimum wage and a Paid Family Leave program. He supported a bill which requires African American and Puerto Rican history to be included in public school curriculum.

“I was deeply honored on election night last year. I’ve worked hard every day since to make sure all of our neighbors in New London have a voice in Hartford,” Nolan said in a statement. “As a freshman, I was able to make some big things happen for working people across our state as well as delivering much needed increases in state funding to New London.”

Nolan said he plans to use his experience and relationships “to continue delivering results for the Whaling City.”

Nolan’s campaign plans to host a number of meet-andgreet events, giving constituents a chance to ask questions and learn about pressing issues in the legislature.
