• Former Fitch High School standout Jarod

Kosman, a redshirt freshman on the Maryland wrestling team, finished eighth in the 125-pound weight class at the Franklin & Marshall Open earlier this month in Lancaster, Pa. Kosman went 2-2 in his fourth matches, winning one by sudden victory and one in a tiebreaker. • Senior Megan Brawner, an all-state runner during her Ledyard High School days, set the Central Connecticu­t State University women's indoor 1,000-meter record on Friday. She crossed the finish line in two minutes, 52.51 seconds at the John Thomas Invitation­al at Boston University. She placed 12th overall.

• Megan Bauman, a freshman from East Lyme, scored eight points in Babson College's 61-37 win over WPI on Saturday in women's basketball action. A starting guard, Bauman also added five rebounds, four assists, one block and one steal while playing 29 minutes. • New London graduate Collin Sawyer, a senior guard on the Brandeis University basketball team, is one of the top 3-point shooters in Division III. As of Sunday, he was tied for fifth in the country in 3-point field goal percentage at 50.0. He's averaging a team-best 15.1 points for the 24thranked Judges (12-4), who've won seven of their last eight games. • Freshman guard Dev Ostrowski of East Lyme led the Miami Dade College men's basketball team in scoring in each of the last two games. He had 16 points in 73-70 win over ASA College of Miami on Saturday and chipped in 23 in an 82-79 win over Palm Beach State College on Wednesday. It's his best two-game scoring stretch this season. He's lifted his scoring average to 11.1 points per game. • In a college basketball game pitting two former Eastern Connecticu­t Conference players, Montville graduate Cameron Collins scored 26 points to power Salve Regina past Nichols College (7670) and Ledyard graduate DeAnte Bruton on Wednesday. Collins went 10 for 15 from the field and added five rebounds. Bruton finished with 19 points, six rebounds and seven assists. • UConn guard Anna Makurat was named the American Athletic Conference Freshman of the

Week in women's basketball after averaging 14.5 pints, six rebounds, three assists and 2.5 steals in wins over No. 23 Tennessee and East Carolina.

Camel highlights

• Connecticu­t College senior goalie Connor

Rodericks was selected as the New England Small College Athletic Conference Player of the Week in men's hockey. Rodericks allowed only one goal in league wins over Trinity (1-0) and Wesleyan (2-1), making a season-high 43 saves and 35 saves, respective­ly. The Camels climbed to 8-7-1 overall, 4-5-1 in the NESCAC. • With six NESCAC games left, the women's hockey team is in the hunt for a conference tournament berth. The Camels are 3-0-1 in their last four league games. They've improved to 5-4-1 in the NESCAC, 11-5-1 overall. Six different players scored goals in a pair of 3-1 wins over Wesleyan last weekend.

Mariners riding a wave

• The Mitchell College men's basketball team is nipping at the heels of New England Collegiate Conference leader Eastern Nazarene (10-8, 5-0) after beating Lesley University and Elms College last week. The Mariners, who've won three straight, improved to 7-11, 4-1. The league's top two teams meet on Wednesday in Quincy, Mass. • The women's basketball team has relied on a balanced scoring attack in recent action. The Mariners had four different players score in double figures in each of the two wins last week. Sophomore reserve Inanna Rice had a productive game in a 72-56 win over Elms on Saturday, scoring a season high 12 points. She went four for four from the field and four for six from the free throw line.

Tracking the Bears

• The Coast Guard Academy women's basketball team is looking to build some momentum this week and make a move in the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference standings. The Bears (12-6, 1-2) broke a three-game losing streak with a win over Emerson on Saturday. They visit Mount Holyoke (1-17, 0-3) Wednesday and WPI (116, 1-1) on Saturday.
