Boston (AP) — A man wanted for murder in Massachusetts for nearly 30 years who fled to the Dominican Republic will be arraigned Monday, according to the FBI.

The FBI Boston Division said Jose Armanda Betances has been turned over to the agency.

Betances is scheduled to be arraigned in Woburn Superior Court on a murder charge for the death of Andrew Alexander on May 12, 1990, in Lowell. Betances allegedly shot Alexander between the eyes, according to the FBI.

The 17-year-old Alexander was shot after he threw a rock through the window of a car that his ex-girlfriend was riding in, police told The Boston Globe at the time. Betances was allegedly driving the car, police said.

An arrest warrant was issued for Betances in Lowell District Court in 1990. A federal arrest warrant was issued in August 1990 on a charge of unlawful flight to avoid prosecution.

Investigators located the 58-year-old in the Dominican Republic, the FBI said. Betances was arrested outside his residence in November and held in custody pending his extradition to Massachusetts.

Boston (AP) — A man has been sentenced to state prison for bombing a Boston police cruiser.

A judge sentenced 45-yearold Asim Kieta to 15 to 18 years in state prison, followed by probation for five years, for planting and detonating an improvised explosive device next to a parked Boston police cruiser, the Suffolk County district attorney said Friday.

The improvised bomb that included a propane tank exploded on Jan. 20, 2017 in South Boston.

It detonated in two stages and the second blast on a busy South Boston bridge injured three officers who were clearing the area of pedestrian and motor vehicle traffic during the morning rush hour.
