Mystic — Arlene Joyce Carson, 78, Friday, Jan. 24, 2020, a lifelong resident of Mystic and mother of three, passed away with her children by her side after a brief battle with cancer. Arlene was born Nov. 20, 1941, in New London to the late Harold and Florence (Munn) McLaughlin. She married Bernard Carson of Noank, who predecease­d her in 2010.

Arlene had a passion for helping others. She also loved to decorate her house and yard during the holidays. In the summer, you could find her working in her garden and tending to her flowerbeds. She was an avid lover of birds, especially cardinals, and a collector of anything to do with both cardinals and the Pillsbury Doughboy. She had a strong will, easygoing personalit­y, a wonderful sense of humor and a gentle heart.

She was preceded in death by her three brothers, Harold Jr., Russell “Huck” and Carl McLaughlin. Arlene is survived by her son, John Sanborn (Johnny) of Menomonee Falls, Wis.; daughters, Robin Jamerson of R.I. and Karen (Blake) Peterson of Highland, Mich.; sister Marie Burns of East Haven; sister-in-law Joan McLaughlin of Mystic; four grandchild­ren; and two great-grandchild­ren.

Her family will receive relatives and friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 6, at the Mystic Funeral Home located on Route 1 in Mystic. A funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 7, at the funeral home. Interment will follow the service at the Elm Grove Cemetery, Mystic. A luncheon will be held at the VFW in Mystic immediatel­y following her burial. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
