Stone’s near triple-double paces Avery Point Second-half rally lifts No. 4 NFA

Warwick, R.I. — For the second straight game, Abby Stone of Old Lyme narrowly missed a triple-double in UConn-Avery Point’s 77-35 win over the Community College of Rhode Island in a women’s basketball game on Saturday.

Stone finished with 22 points, 10 rebounds and eight assists for the Pointers (12-7), who also had a double-double from Rebekah Sanders of Quaker Hill (18 points, 26 rebounds, five assists). Julitza Delgado (16 points, five rebounds), Ashley Burke (10 points, four rebounds) and Kalianna Dingui (eight points, five steals) also contribute­d to the victory. CCRI is 6-19. In other games: • Coast Guard lost to WPI 75-59 in a New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference game. Jacqueline Ward had 17 points and four rebounds and Kyra Hartman had a game-high nine rebounds for Coast Guard (13-7, 2-3).

Men’s basketball

• No. 23 Babson beat Coast Guard 9684 in a NEWMAC game. Packy Witkowski led Coast Guard (7-11, 2-6) with 28 points, Tyler Perez scored 16 and Justin Kane had a game-high nine rebounds including the 600th of his career.

• Avery Point’s rally fell short, losing to CCRI 78-74. Tyler Zegray scored 25 points, five assists and four rebounds, Cyrus Sprague had 23 points and seven rebounds and Waterford’s Trevor Yeomans has 12 points and 12 rebounds for Avery Point (8-11).

• Matt Karpowicz had 16 points and five rebounds as Williams beat Conn College on Friday night, 71-52, in a New England Small College Athletic Conference game. Daniel Draffan had 16 points and seven rebounds for Conn (3-15, 0-5) and Jeff Allen scored 15 with seven rebounds.

Wrestling

• No. 17 Coast Guard won nine of the 10 matches en route to a 45-2 win over Trinity. Liam Logue (133 pounds) had a pin while Montville’s Noah Caskey (141), Phil Rogers (165), A.J. Aeberli (174), Jon Wagner (197) and heavyweigh­t Patrick Irwin also won their matches for the Bears (5-2).

Men’s hockey

• Alexander Payusov and Jachym Kondelik scored two goals each as UConn beat New Hampshire for a weekend sweep of the Hockey East series. Wyatt Newpower had three assists for UConn (11-12-4, 8-7-2).

Jonny Evans had his second hat trick of the season with two assists to place UConn to a 7-4 win on Friday. Vladislav Firstov had a goal and three assists and Kondelik added three assists for UConn. Tomas Vomacka also had 42 saves, including 20 in the second period.

Women’s hockey

• Conn College’s Carly Denora made 32 saves as the Camels tied Williams 1-1 in a NESCAC game Friday.

Hartford — No. 4 Norwich Free Academy outscored Capital Prep 239 in the third quarter and rallied for a 51-35 win in a nonleague girls’ basketball game on Saturday. Makayla Poirier-Vaughters had 19 points and Jada Mills scored 15 for NFA (13-2), which trailed 20-15 at halftime.

• Griswold beat St. Bernard 4036. Sophia Boras scored 18 points for the Saints (6-9).

Boys’ basketball

• Stonington couldn’t hold a 36-21 halftime lead, falling to E.O. Smith 55-51 in a nonleague game. Anthony Fry had 17 points and eight assists, Ayden Morrison had 11 points and six rebounds and Zach Scott had five rebounds and five assists for Stonington (7-8).

• East Lyme lost to Enfield 61-46 in a nonleague game. Nate Diaz had 15 points and Sujesh Kurumbail scored 10 for East Lyme (4-10).

Tech downed Grasso Tech on Friday night, 78-34, in a Constituti­on State Conference game. Donnel Brown, Tyrell Dennis and Domonic Martinez all scored six for Grasso.

Wrestling

• Waterford went 2-1 at its Lancer Duals, beating Notre Dame-West Haven 55-23 and Bunnell 45-23 while losing to Southingto­n 59-6. Mason Concascia (120) and A.J. Sachatello (152) had two pins each for the Lancers (1411) and teammates Zachary Gamble (132) and Jackson Harshberge­r (182) also won two matches each.

• East Lyme/Norwich Tech went 2-2 at the Hastings Duals in Newington. The Vikings (9-14) defeated Newington 42-33 and Stratford 4536 while losing to Amity 50-24 and Haddam-Killingwor­th 43-24. Jeremiah Irizary (120) went 4-0 with four pins while Michael Minevich (138) went 3-1 with three pins and Roark Ryan (220) finished 3-1.
