• UConn senior Christian Vital earned a spot on the American Athletic Conference men's basketball weekly honor roll after averaging 22.5 points, seven rebounds, three steals and two assists in two games. He also set the AAC's all-time career record for 3-pointers with 253. • In women's basketball honors, UConn junior

Megan Walker and freshman Anna Makurat were named the AAC player and rookie of the week, respective­ly, after leading the Huskies to the ACC regular season title. Walker averaged 19 points and eight rebounds while Makurat averaged 17.5 points and five rebounds in two games. • Freshman right-hander Ken Turner, a two-time all-state selection at Ledyard, made his collegiate debut for the University of Hartford on Sunday against Stetson in Florida. He earned a no-decision, allowing seven hits in six innings while striking out two and walking three. The Hawks lost 3-2. • Two former Eastern Connecticu­t Conference foes are now teammates on the Stetson women's lacrosse team. Waterford's Jacklyn Lavoie, a sophomore midfielder, and Stonington's Kate Johnson, a freshman midfielder/defender, both contribute­d to an 18-15 season-opening win over Oregon on Feb. 15. Lavoie scored a goal and Johnson added an assist. • Montville graduates TT Bowens and Buddy Dewaine helped the Central Connecticu­t State baseball team win a weekend series against Bethune-Cookman in Daytona Beach, Fla. Bowens drew a bases-loaded walk and Dewaine accounted for one of the team's three hits in a 4-0 win on Sunday. • Southern Connecticu­t State's Sara Buscetto,a senior from Waterford, is off to a fast start on the softball field. Through five games, she is 7 for 15 with four runs scored, six walks and four stolen bases. She made the Northeast-10 weekly honor roll

last week. • Through 14 games, Fitch graduate Taylor Wolfgang, a catcher on the Bucknell University softball team, is batting .316 (12 for 38) with one home run and seven RBI. She's coming off a superb sophomore season during which she led the Patriot League in RBI (41) and doubles (18) while ranking second in home runs with seven. • Eastern Connecticu­t State sophomore Seth

Thomas, who's from Norwich and attended Putnam Science Academy, finished tied for fourth in rebounding in the Little East Conference with an 8.3 per game average. Thomas also averaged 12.9 points, third best on the ECSU men's basketball team. • New London's Collin Sawyer scored a career-best 27 points and added four rebounds before fouling out in overtime as Brandeis University beat the University of Chicago, 101-95, Sunday. A senior, he's averaging a team-best 15.6 points per game. • India Pagan, a junior forward from New London, is vital contributo­r to the success of the Stony Brook women's basketball team that recently clinched its first America East regular season title. She's second on the team in scoring (13.4) and rebounding (6.0). The Seawolves (25-2 overall, 13-1 in the league) had their program-record 22-game winning streak stopped with a 64-62 overtime loss at Maine on Sunday. • Former Ledyard standout Megan Brawner put on show-stopping performanc­e last weekend at the Northeast Conference Indoor Track and Field Championsh­ip in Staten Island, N.Y. The CCSU senior won the mile for the second straight year, finishing in 5:01.42, and took first in the 5,000 meters in 18:01.78 while also running a leg on the winning distance medley relay team. She shared the meet's most outstandin­g track performer award. • Western Connecticu­t State's Ryan Reuling, a senior midfielder from Groton, was named the Little East Conference defensive player of the week in

men's lacrosse. He had five ground balls and forced three turnovers in two wins. He also had nine goals. • Stonington's Ben Abely, a freshman at Lasell College, tied the school record in the 200 meters, finishing third in 23.37 seconds at the Great Northeast Atlantic Conference Indoor Championsh­ips on Feb. 17 in Boston. • UConn junior infielder Kyler Fedko made the AAC baseball weekly honor roll after helping the Huskies take a series with top-ranked Michigan last weekend. • East Lyme's Megan Bauman helped the Babson College women's basketball team clinch the NEWMAC regular season title with a perfect 10-0 mark and earn the league tournament's top seed. Bauman, a freshman, is averaging 12.7 points, four rebounds and 3.5 assists.

Mariners riding a wave

• For the fourth time this season, Mitchell College sophomore Amina Wiley was selected as the New England Collegiate Conference player of the week in women's basketball. Wiley had a double-double in all three games, averaging 19.3 points, 11 rebounds and four steals. She also shot 63 percent from the field. • Mitchell's Alfonzo Stokes earned his fifth NECC rookie of the week honor in men's basketball while

Hasani Williams was an All-NECC first team pick, Matt Finke made the second team and Dra Harrison was named to the All-NECC Sportsmans­hip team.

Camel highlights

• The Connecticu­t College men's hockey team secured a berth in the New England Small College Athletic Conference. The Camels (11-11-2, 7-9-2) will visit top-seeded Williams for a 3 p.m. quarterfin­al round game on Saturday. They were swept in the regular season series, losing both games by 3-1 margins. They're one of the most improved teams in the league, winning four more games than last season and racking up the most victories since the 2014-15 season. In women's hockey, Conn College (13-7-4, 6-6-4), the No. 6 seed, will visit No. 3 Amherst in Saturday's quarterfin­al. The Camels have reached the semifinals in five of the last seven seasons. They lost the season series to Amherst, 3-0 and 2-1. The program has won at least 10 games overall in 10 straight seasons.

Tracking the Bears

• The Coast Guard Academy men's basketball team qualified for the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference tournament for the first time since 2011. The fifth-seeded Bears (11-13, 6-8) carry a four-game winning streak into first round action at No. 4 Emerson on Wednesday. They split the regular season series, losing 94-75 on Jan. 8 and winning 102-99 in the regular season finale on Saturday. • The women's basketball closed out its season at 15-10 overall, recording eight more wins than last season, but fell short of qualifying for the conference tournament. The Bears will lose two valuable players, seniors Breanna Wood and Zoe

Riis-Fallica. Wood ended her career seventh alltime in rebounds (694), tied for fourth in shooting percentage (46.7) and ninth in free throws made (177). Riis-Fallica leaves the program ranked sixth in assists (242) and eight in 3-pointers (126). Both players scored over 600 points. • Two CGA lacrosse players received weekly honors from the NEWMAC. Caleb Holdridge, a freshman from Waterford, was named the men's offensive athlete of the week after scoring 11 goals and adding three assists and five ground balls in his first two college games last week.
