Impeachment helped Trump, hurt Biden

The “Trump-Ukraine scandal” intended to defuse President Trump’s re-election prospects obviously boomeranged on the Democratic Party and what President Trump calls “deep state” media outlets two-fold. First, instead of Trump’s popularity plummeting, it soared. The exact thing happened to impeached Bill Clinton, 21 years ago.

Americans are smart and pragmatic enough to perceive political ulterior motives, particularly when this audacious. Trump not only survived the onslaught but prospers from it, a lifelong habit of this two-fisted bare knuckler who has revived America’s proud fighting spirit.

Second, the positive proof that he deliberately set the trap is the startling irony that it is his number one foe that ended up taking the fall! Only weeks ago, Joe Biden was a heavy odds-on Las Vegas favorite to whip Trump in November but post Ukraine-Gate his party support descended. UkraineGate’s two-fold motive to harm Trump and protect Biden horrendously backfired on both counts.

Americans, particularly Biden’s own Democrats, saw the obvious. As vice president he set his son up for a multi-million-dollar windfall and risked national security by doing so in a crucial square on the global military chessboard. Bye bye Biden.

Trump has trumped them again. He — or some mysterious covert brilliant strategist — set the trap and they walked right into it just as he and/or his shadowy mastermind knew they would. Martin Crane New London
