Coast Guard women roll past Va. Wesleyan

Virginia Beach, Va. — Maddie Rizzuto scored three goals and had two assists as Coast Guard beat Virginia Wesleyan 16-2 in a women's lacrosse game on Saturday.

Catarina Goncalves, Erin Mullen and Etta Davis had two goals each and Haley McCue had a goal and two assists for Coast Guard (3-1). Tori Manahan scored twice for Wesleyan (0-5). In other games: • Middlebury College, the topranked team in the nation, defeated Connecticu­t College 16-5 in the New England Small College Athletic Conference. The game was tied at 2-2 when the Panthers (2-0, 2-0) broke the game open with six straight goals. Clara Bisson had a goal and two assists for the Camels (2-1, 0-1) while Mazey Loomis scored twice and goalie Nina Fazio made eight saves.

• Mitchell College opened its season with a 19-8 loss to Anna Maria. Hannah Corrigan had four goals and an assist to lead the Mariners while Daniella Holland added three goals and Lindsey Fairbank scored a goal and had seven draw controls along with Corrigan. Gillian MacLellan made 13 saves in goal.

Men

• Brett Gladstone scored the game-winning goal with 1:04 remaining in double overtime to lift Grove City to a 16-15 win over Coast Guard. Gladstone scored seven goals along and had three assists and Waterford's Michael La Forte also scored for Grove City (1-2). Matty Johnson scored five goals, Will Iorio had three goals and four assists and Waterford's Caleb Holdridge had two goals and two assists for Coast Guard (2-4).

• Conn College lost its NESCAC opener, falling to Middlebury 20-8. Jack Rutter scored four goals, Toby Almeida won 15 faceoffs and had eight ground balls and Courtney Morgan caused three turnovers and two ground balls to lead the defense for Conn (1-1).
