MAN CHARGED WITH DRAGGING MONTVILLE OFFICERS WHILE FLEEING TRAFFIC STOP
Groton — After a three-day search, police have charged a man who they say fled from a traffic stop on Saturday evening, dragging two Montville Police Department officers with him.
Todd Raymond, 45, was found near the Walmart in Groton about 8:15 p.m. Tuesday, when he was pulled over in another traffic stop by Groton Town police, according to Montville police and Connecticut State Police. Officials had been looking for Raymond since Saturday, when police say he fled from Montville police officers during a traffic stop on Route 32 about 8:30 p.m. and dragged two officers with his vehicle when he took off.
Raymond was taken into custody without incident Tuesday on 11 charges: two counts of assault on a police officer; interfering with a police officer; criminal impersonation; criminal violation of probation; negligent use of highway by pedestrians; engaging in a police pursuit; disobeying the signal of an officer; reckless driving; traveling unreasonably fast and operating a motor vehicle without a license.
Police said Raymond gave officers a false name when they stopped him and fled when officers tried to gather more information.
State police troopers were notified of the incident and went to the area of the traffic stop. They later found the vehicle Raymond was driving abandoned in Norwich and spotted Raymond walking on the Mohegan-Pequot Bridge, but he jumped off and landed on the ground near a set of railroad tracks. Montville and state police then conducted a K-9 track, which led to the area of Mohegan Sun.
At the time of his arrest Tuesday, Raymond was wanted on two active arrest warrants. He was taken to state police Troop E barracks and later transferred to Corrigan-Radgowski Correctional Center, where he was being held on a $75,000 bond. He was scheduled to appear in Norwich Superior Court on Wednesday.
The officers who were dragged by his vehicle were not injured.
