Sen. Somers’ great service during crisis

-

As a registered nurse and the CEO of a network of nursing and rehabilitation facilities, I have seen firsthand that state Sen. Heather Somers is one of those unique leaders who rises above party labels in order to provide true service to our communities.

Whether fighting for solutions to save lives, protect our communities, restore commerce and support workers, families and small businesses, or personally going out and delivering masks and supplies, Somers is serving the people of Connecticut — and getting results.

As a leader on the state task force she advanced solutions to safeguard at-risk facilities and individuals, including working with the private sector on solutions to increase the availability of telehealth services and successfully suspending a tax to keep grocery workers safe.

She led the fight to hold state government accountable and has criticized the Department of Labor for taking weeks to process unemployment claims. She coordinated response efforts and logistics with medical experts, health care facilities and municipal leaders. She has helped small businesses and individuals navigate their options and secure access to relief.

While she has kept hyper-focused on service, her challenger’s campaign has made deeply partisan and frankly ludicrous claims in an attempt to score political points.

This kind of petty partisanship should be viewed as disqualifying at such a challenging time. Martin Sbriglio Owner, Mystic Healthcare Shelton
