LYME TO BEGIN PHASED REOPENING WEDNESDAY

- — Mark Biekert

Lyme — The town has announced that its facilities and buildings will begin a phased reopening beginning Wednesday while the Board of Selectmen will monitor the process closely “should another wave of COVID-19 return.”

The town plans to resume Brush Hill Transfer Station’s normal operating schedule May 21. The Hamburg Recycling Center will reopen with modified hours May 22 and will waive all transfer-station fees through June 30.

The Town Hall and Library will reopen gradually as town staff modify the buildings and work spaces to reflect recommended public health protocols, with staff coming back May 26. Both buildings are tentatively set to reopen to the public Monday, June 8, depending upon the infection rate in New London County and the availability of testing for staff.

The public will have access to both buildings three days a week, while staff will continue a full week schedule. More information can be found at townlyme.org.

“While we hope to return to as much ‘normal’ as possible, things will clearly be different as we institute new procedures to protect our residents and employees and to avoid experiencing a recurrence of rising virus infections in our community,” First Selectman Steve Mattson wrote in the news release.

The town strongly urges residents to wear masks when outdoors and to maintain at least a six-foot distance from others. Residents who are 60 or older, or who have other medical conditions, are advised to stay home as much as possible.
