Rose, Finau and Casey commit to Travelers Championship

-

Three more of the world's best golfers are Cromwell-bound.

Justin Rose, Tony Finau and Paul Casey were added to the Travelers Championship's lineup on Monday, joining the likes of Rory McIlroy, Brooks Koepka and Justin Thomas in what once again promises to be a star-studded event despite its fanfree designation amid the coronavirus shutdown.

With Rose, No. 14 in the Official World Golf Ranking, and Finau, No. 16, in the fold, the tournament now boasts eight of the top 16 players on the planet. Casey, a two-time runner-up at the Travelers, is ranked No. 24 and has been a thorny competitor on the European side for four Ryder Cup teams.

“Our field continues to grow, and it is going to be an exciting event to watch from home with a number of the world's best competing at TPC River Highlands,” tournament director Nathan Grube said in a release.

Rose, 39, of England, has 10 career PGA Tour victories among his 24 total wins as a professional. This marks his ninth start at TPC River Highlands and his first since 2013, when he kept his commitment to the Travelers after winning his first major at the U.S. Open a week prior. Like McIlroy, Rose is a former FedEx Cup champ and has spent time atop the world rankings. He's appeared on five Ryder Cup teams and won a gold medal when golf made its return to the Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro in 2016.

Finau, 30, of Salt Lake City, is among the tour's longest hitters and appears poised to take the next step in a promising career, with five top 10 finishes in his last eight starts in a major. As a Ryder Cup rookie at Le Golf National in Paris in 2018, he posted a 2-1-0 record for the Americans.

For his part, Casey, a three-time winner on tour, has been a fixture on the leaderboard at the Travelers but hasn't quite been able to close out a victory. He lost in a playoff to threetime winner Bubba Watson in 2015 and finished in a tie for second behind Watson in 2018. Casey finished fifth in last year's event.
