ONLINE FEEDBACK

-

This is how some of the readers of theday.com reacted to last week’s story, “New London council votes to make Columbus removal permanent.”

“OK, so we have removed Columbus I cannot wait to see what statue is offensive next. Since private money paid to put the statue in place and public money paid to remove it, here are the next steps. In reality the council and the mayor should pay out of their own pockets for the removal, however they will not.”

— Keith J. Robbins

“Well, John Winthrop is next, then the Soldiers and Sailors Monument if New London is going to be a Statuary-free zone and of course, the Whale’s Tail also, let’s not forget the Nathan Hale School as well as these symbols might have some negative connotations toward somebody. So utterly ridiculous!”

— Michael A. Tucker

“Michael A. Tucker agreed. Same with Keith.”

— Evan Andriopoulos

“New London’s majority demonstrates again why it is a political and economic and educational failure.”

— Frederick Charles Shakir

“Our elected officials are all caving in from across the entire country. How many of those young protesters actually can relate to any of the conditions they are protesting for. I assume many grew up in the rich suburbs and have never taken one step into a ghetto neighborhood. They protest because they have been brainwashed to believe that we are a racist country.”

— William Dennis

“Well as taxpayers I hope our taxes go down seeing (we) will not have to teach history in the schools anymore. Columbus? Mommy who was Columbus?”

— William Lewis

“Thank you Councilor Goodwin. Blessed are the peacemakers. Amen.”

— Judy Schiavone

“How about put up a huge PEACE sign in place of the Columbus statue, or is there something wrong with that?”

— Karen Hansen
