UConn football adds Vandy, Georgia State to future schedules

Storrs — UConn finalized agreements on Wednesday to play Vanderbilt and George State in football in future years.

The Huskies will play Vanderbilt, a member of the Southeaste­rn Conference, on Oct. 2, 2021 in Nashville, Tenn., and will play a home-andhome series against George State, the first on Sept. 9, 2023, in Atlanta, and the return game on Nov. 2, 2024, in East Hartford.

UConn is 1-2 all-time against the Commodores but have never played Georgia State.

The addition of Vanderbilt to the 2021 schedule gives the Huskies 10 games.

They will host Holy Cross, Purdue, Wyoming and Middle Tennessee while visiting Fresno State, Army, UMass, Clemson, Central Florida and Vanderbilt.

Black Wolves re-sign Malcom

• The New England Black Wolves announced that forward Tony Malcom has been re-signed to a oneyear contract. He was acquired in 2019 from the Vancouver Warriors in exchange for a second-round selection in the 2022 National Lacrosse League Entry Draft.

"Anthony had an exceptiona­l season with us last year in a role that was a little different for him,'' said Black Wolves General Manager and coach Glenn Clark. "He played predominan­tly in a defensive role and excelled with his defense and transition game. He was a big part of our success last season and will be crucial for our success moving forward.''

He appeared in 11 games for the team last season, collecting a teamhigh 95 loose balls. Malcom also caused nine turnovers and had 13 points on seven goals and six assists.

NLL to expand

• The NLL is expanding into Texas for the first time after announcing it plans for a new franchise in Fort Worth. The Fort Worth club, which has yet to be named, will give the NLL 14 teams for the 2020-21 season. The team will play at Dickie's Arena, a 14,000-seat venue near downtown that opened last year.

• Chris Gallagher pitched six innings for the win as the Pirates beat the Sonics 6-3 in an Eastern Connecticu­t Major League game on Tuesday. Josh Gurnack homered and Mike Evans had a triple for the Pirates. Chris Gibb had two hits and Kyle Richards drove in two runs for the Sonics.

• Pieter Khoury's double scored Jake Parizo and Eric Javor in the top of the sixth with the go ahead runs as the Pirates defeated the Knights 3-2 on Monday night. Justin Daniels had a pair of hits for the Pirates while Andrew Fogarty, in relief of Hunter Nadeau, earned the win. Jeremy Santos hit a solo homer for the Knights.
