Readers of theday.com weighed in about the story, “Blumenthal favors pulling plug on Eversource,” about Sen. Blumenthal’s proposal to break up the multistate energy distribution company and his demand for the CEO to resign.

“Eversource executives receive big incentive compensation for profitability. This means that they risked and chose not to be prepared for their own benefit and in the end, they will pass these extra expenses on to us, the ratepayers.”

— Lucira Jane Nebelung

“Our entire country is in dire need of a better, more reliable power grid, and that has been known for years. But don’t hold your breath.”

— Dean Morse

“Obviously underground power lines are the answer and why is it that, in Stonington anyway, when gas and water companies tear up the roads for their piping they aren’t required to install conduits for electrical?”

— Bill Mortensen

“Bill Mortenson shows the vision and solutions for the future - consider public office, Bill, you are desperately needed.” — Jim Spellman

“Just to let you know in Ledyard - I have underground wiring from the road to my home. It was put in when I built the house and it had to be fixed once in 42 years after “Gloria.” Salt water got into the underground wiring — how, who knows. The homeowner pays for its installation from the pole to the house and its hook up. Also, if there is a problem with the line from the pole to your home, the home owner has to pay for its repair: digging it up, repairing it, etc. Any outages I have sustained over the years have been the result of the electric company’s lines, poles, etc., not my underground.”

— Celeste Brown

“Can someone remind Blumy he hasn’t been CT AG for years? He is a Senator in Washington now… His political office has zero jurisdiction over state issues here.”

— Linda Blais
