UConn launches 'Fight on Fund'

The UConn athletic department has launched the "Fight on Fund" — an effort to raise funds needed to ensure the safety, well-being, and experience of its student-athletes during the COVID-19 pandemic. The fund will help mitigate significant revenue losses by the cancellation of fall sports and led to budget cuts, salary reductions and a hiring freeze.

"The generosity and support of UConn Nation is something that sets UConn athletics apart as we continue to strive for excellence in competition and in the classroom," athletic director David Benedict said. "As a result of the pandemic, new expenses have been thrust upon us and revenue generation opportunities have been compromised. The Fight on Fund will ease many of our financial challenges, ensuring that our student-athletes will continue to be supported appropriately."

Donations made to the fund will go toward scholarship support, academic support, COVID testing, sports medicine, nutrition, and mental health services, as well as other operational needs. Individuals who give to the Fight on Fund during the 2020-21 donor year will receive 2x the standard priority points.

Benedict said the fund is an unrestricted current-use fund, which means that gifts can be applied when and where they are most needed.
