UConn women to begin league play in Dec.

The UConn women’s basketball team returns to Big East Conference play for the first time since 2013 on Sunday, Dec. 6, as the Huskies travel to Seton Hall. The Big East announced women’s basketball’s December dates Friday.

UConn will take on Butler in its conference home opener on Tuesday, Dec. 15. The Huskies host Xavier on Saturday, Dec. 19 before traveling to Villanova on Tuesday, Dec. 22.

The Huskies also play Louisville on Friday, Dec. 4 in nonconfere­nce action.

Tipoff times and TV designatio­ns will be announced in the coming weeks, as well as the 16 remaining Big East games.

A decision is also forthcomin­g as to whether fans will be allowed to attend games at Gampel Pavilion and, if so, how many and under what restrictio­ns and protocols. UConn season ticket holders will receive more informatio­n about their season ticket packages in the near future.

UConn is scheduled to open the season Nov. 28-29 in the Basketball Hall of Fame Women's Challenge at Mohegan Sun Arena. The Huskies face Quinnipiac in the opener and either Mississipp­i State or Maine in the championsh­ip game.

On Thursday, UConn was picked to finish first in the preseason Big East coaches' poll. Team members Christyn Williams (Preseason Player of the Year) and Paige Bueckers (Preseason Freshman of the Year) earned major honors, while UConn's Olivia Nelson-Ododa and Evina Westbrook were named to the preseason all-conference team.
