The Day

ONLINE FEEDBACK

-

There was plenty of reaction by readers of theday.com to last week’s story reporting that the New London City Council had voted unanimously to exchange Columbus Day in the city with Italian Heritage Day.

“It’s not the end of the world folks, things need to evolve. I think this kind of political correctness is a very good thing for the education of our young people. Just like the young people of the South need to see their Confederacy statues removed. Our country thrives on diversity, it keeps us free, and respect for diversity is critical for our future.”

— David Isola

“Evolving is learning not canceling David. Time for celebration of the Titsi fly day.”

— Evan Andriopoulos

“I’m sure that will make a huge difference in the quality of life in New London.”

— Rick Beaney

“This is a TOTAL insult to the Italian community from WOKE clowns.”

— Paul Nunes

“Why did New London Public Schools start celebrating Indigenous People’s Day instead of Columbus Day several years ago, but the City is now celebrating ‘Italian Heritage Day’? Will the city and the schools ever align?”

— Tim Fioravanti

“When are we going to be able to go to council meetings again and when are they going to be broadcast …live again? I want something for my tax money.”

— Dennis Downing

How exciting for the Democrats, now they can have a group hug and all will be better for them. It is Columbus Day, get over it and stop whining! Changing the name of the day does nothing to improve the quality of life for anyone. What might is reducing the number of paid holidays for public employees and bringing that in line with the private sector.”
