Patience Zawacki
Old Lyme — Patience “Penny” Zawacki, of Old Lyme passed away Jan. 11, 2021. She was born Sept. 23, 1937, in New Britain, the daughter of Archibald and Ida Johnson Waters.
Penny was a Farmington High School majorette and cheerleader. She was a member of the Lady’s Auxiliary for the South End’s Fire Department in Old Lyme. She loved to get together with her girlfriends weekly and paint ceramics. She was also a first baseman for the Old Lyme Seafood’s women’s softball team. Over the past 30 years, she was frequently seen at every school event, musical recital, school play, athletic event and celebrations for all her 12 grandchildren. Her deep love and support for them completed every fiber of her life. She will forever be remembered through all the Waterford schools screaming “Go Blue!”
Penny is survived by her husband Frank; children, Gary Zawacki and his wife Amanda, Jill Long and her husband Jesse, and Amy Hendry, all of Waterford; siblings, Nelson Waters of Farmington, Paula Waters of Torrington, and Penelope Swain of Farmington; grandchildren, Nicole, Trevor, Christian and Lillie Hendry, Alexa, Nolan, Weston, Jackson, and Jenna Long, Julia, Frankie, and Robert Zawacki. Penny was predeceased by her siblings, Archibald Waters, Patricia Mazur, Priscilla Grevalsky, Prudence Peltier and Pamela Waters.
Calling hours will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 16, at Fulton-Theroux Funeral Home, 13 Beckwith Lane, Old Lyme. A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 17, at Duck River Cemetery, Old Lyme.
