York, S.C. — William “Uncle Bill” F. Seelig Jr. passed away Jan. 20, 2021, at the age of

93, at the home of his daughter Susan in York, S.C. Bill was born Aug. 27, 1927, in Meriden, to Anna and William Seelig Sr.

He grew up in West Hartford, and spent summers camping at Hammonasset Beach where he met Doris, his future wife. After graduating from Hall High School, he joined the U.S. Marine Corps and served overseas in China during the war effort. Upon returning to the States with an honorable discharge, Bill enrolled at Mitchell College in New London and received an associate degree in business.

Bill and Doris married in 1949, and took up residence in West Hartford where they raised their three daughters. After working for a few years at Armour and Company, Bill joined his father and brother Bob, running their own business, Arnurius, Dunn and Co. where they processed meat into dried beef.

Bill was very active with the Masons and the Shriners, where he played the glockenspiel with the band. He loved helping at the Shrine Circus and always told us he was going to “water the elephants.” Later in his career, Bill worked for Waybest Foods in South Windsor and part time at The Butchery. Eventually, Bill and Doris relocated to their summer home in Niantic. Not ready to fully retire, and a hard worker who loved being with people, Bill continued to work at the deli counter at Salem Prime Cuts. When not hard at work, Bill was happiest sitting on his deck, greeting all, friends or strangers alike, as they passed by on their way to the beach.

Bill is survived by his daughters, Susan Chase (Bruce) of York, S.C., Kathryn Leindecker (Willard) of East Lyme, and Beth Nyerick (partner Ken Swanson) of Torrington; three grandchildren, Rick Chase (Sarah) of S.C., Debi Chase (fiancé Mickey Younker). Binghamton, N.Y., and CJ Leindecker of East Lyme; and four great-grandchildren: Sydney and Jackson Chase and Zoe and Emily Younker.

The family wishes to thank the Hospice team for their help and making it possible to keep Dad comfortably at home.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Niantic Community Church, 170 Pennsylvania Ave., Niantic, CT 06257. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, there will be no calling hours. A private memorial service may be held at a later date. Online condolences may be shared at www.mcewenpinevillechapel.com.
