Alan Rosiene
Melbourne, Fla. — Alan M. Rosiene, 60, passed away peacefully Saturday, Jan. 16, 2021, from COVID-19. The son of Harriet and the late Alan I. Rosiene, he grew up in Preston and attended Norwich Free Academy. He received his undergraduate degree from Wesleyan University and his Ph.D. from Northwestern University.
For the past 28 years, Alan worked at Florida Institute of Technology, most recently as an assistant professor and program chairman of English and Languages and associate head of the School of Arts and Communications. He earned numerous awards including the Florida Tech Student Ambassadors Outstanding Faculty Award and the Kerry Bruce Clark Award for Excellence in Teaching. He was recognized with three consecutive President’s Awards for University Excellence, which honor faculty and staff for contributions to the life of the university beyond the regular duties of employment.
An accomplished pianist, Alan played with the Florida Tech faculty band “Twitchy.” Friends and family remember him for his sense of humor and patient and easygoing manner. An adventurous spirit, he enjoyed many happy trips around the world with his wife and daughter.
Alan is survived by his wife Sandra Bruner; and daughter Kate Rosiene, both of Melbourne, Fla.; mother Harriet Rosiene of Preston; sisters, Tracy Rosiene of Preston and Meg (Terry) Skowronek and nephew Matthew of Chester; brother Joel (Carolyn) Rosiene of Colchester; nephew Joel of NYC; and niece Katie of Syracuse, N.Y. He will be greatly missed by his aunts and uncles, his extended family in Florida; and all who knew him. A special “thank you” to his nephew Joel, MD, who helped translate the complicated medical situation for Sandra and the family.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, no services are being held at this time.
