Edward and Audrey met at the University of Connecticut where Ed graduated with a bachelor’s degree in 1960, and a master’s degree in 1964. Edward and Audrey had been married for 61 years.

Science education, the environment, farming and family were Ed’s focuses during life. Ed also began a business called Wilderness Tours, a traveling company for boys and girls that toured Washington, D.C., Yellowstone National Park, Montana, Wyoming, the Dakotas and Maine. Traveling and camping was something he also enjoyed with his family.

Dig Your Own Mums was the start of a local, family run business known as Adam’s Garden of Eden providing Christmas trees, Halloween pumpkins, mums and special event flowers and decor. Edward also helped create the Garlic Festival on his property. He enjoyed the challenge of raising cows, sheep and pigs that would try to enjoy the fruits of his labor. He loved scaring people on hayrides as well as scaring his students in the classroom.

Ed was one of the founders of Project Oceanology, a program to nurture interest and inspire enthusiasm in local children and the public for the marine environment. He helped secure funding for the start of “Project O” and served as a teacher representative on the board for many years. He took many trips on the Project O boat, studying the local estuarine environment with his students.
