Rudolph Fogg

Waterford — Rudolph “Rudy” Fogg passed away Jan. 3, 2021, at Lawrence + Memorial Hospital. He was born Sept. 11, 1921, in Limestone County, Ala. He was raised on a cotton farm and always wanted to see the big cities. Leaving the farm, he went to Birmingham, Ala., and got a job as a short order cook. He later joined the U.S. Coast Guard and served his country during World War II.

His next venture was visiting New London and settling in the area. He worked in construction and formed his own company, Rudy Fogg and Sons. He raised a large family who also worked with their Dad.

He was a very friendly and generous man. A master of all trades, he could build, mend and design. He enjoyed gardening and grew wonderful vegetables, sharing them with others.

He loved golfing and was on the course in all kinds of weather. Being the stepfather of the Harris clan, he got a few of them golfing with him.

Rudy loved to cook and never forgetting his early job as a “chef,” he was famous for his Southern fried chicken and also pulled pork before it became well known in this area. He was a wonderful host, enjoying his guests and keeping their glasses filled.

He leaves behind his loving wife, Florence, his golfing partner and travel companion. They made many trips to visit his Southern family of cousins, nieces, and nephews in Alabama, and to his daughter Ann and her family in Tennessee.

He leaves his children, Ann, David, Ronnie, Valerie, Cheryl, Joni, Lonnie, Terri, and their mates; nine grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. He also leaves his stepchildren, Billy, Michael, Robert, Louise, Amy (their mates) and the late Millie; 14 step grandchildren and seven step great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a daughter Gail; son Kenneth; and granddaughter Misty.

He is survived by his brothers Max and Levon, and predeceased by brothers, Thomas and Raymond.

Rudy strived to reach his 100th birthday but he did not quite make it. We will celebrate that day, Sept. 11, 2021, by sharing happy memories and remembering his zest for life.

Rudy was greatly loved, and he will be greatly missed.
