Annunziata Miceli

-

Waterford — Annunziata Maiorana Miceli, 82, of Waterford entered eternal life Jan. 26, 2021, in the company of her loving family. She was born Dec. 30, 1938, in Tusa, Sicily, the daughter of the late Nunzio and Eugenia Castagna Maiorana. Annunziata was predeceased by her husband of 60 years, Antonino Miceli, Nov. 12, 2019.

Annunziata married Antonino Miceli in their hometown of Tusa, Sicily, in 1959. Months later Antonino and Annunziata left their home in Tusa and took an arduous 12-day boat trip on the Italian liner Saturnia, bound for the United States. They joined family from Italy in New London, and made their home there. After arriving in America, Annunziata found work as a seamstress, a skill she brought with her from Italy. She enjoyed working for Shalett’s Cleaners in New London as a seamstress for 30 years. She loved to cook and entertain family and friends in her home, and she especially loved the family Sunday dinner. Annunziata will forever be remembered for her kind and generous soul. Their door was always open to welcome family and friends.

Annunziata leaves behind two daughters, Rose Marie Denniston, her husband Anthony and grandson Vincenzo, and Gina Argento and her companion Gregory Dziczek, all of Waterford. She also leaves a brother, Giuseppe Maiorana of Waterford; and two sisters, Antonina Cacciatore of Waterford and Rosaria Siragusa of Tusa, Sicily, and their families; a sister-in-law, Sebastiana DiMarco of Switzerland; two brothers-in-law, and many nieces and nephews.

Annunziata had many dedicated caregivers these past few years, and the family is very grateful for them — they were all angels to Annunziata and her family. The family is also thankful for the 5th floor nursing staff at Lawrence + Memorial Hospital.

There will be a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 30, at St. Joseph’s Church, 149 Montauk Ave., New London. Interment will follow, in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Jefferson Avenue, New London. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or at stjude.org/donate

The Impellitteri-Malia Funeral Home, 84 Montauk Ave., New London, has been entrusted with her care.
