PATRIOTS MEET WITH ALABAMA QB MAC JONES AT SENIOR BOWL
Alabama quarterback Mac Jones met with Patriots scouts at the Senior Bowl this week, Jones told reporters Thursday.
Jones is among six quarterbacks performing at the Senior Bowl, an annual showcase for NFL prospects in Mobile, Ala. Jones is projected to be a mid-to-late first-round pick and a potential fit with the Pats, who are among several teams represented at the Senior Bowl that need a quarterback.
His meeting is notable given the Patriots have drafted at least three Senior Bowl participants in three of the past four years, though they visit with hundreds of prospects every spring.
"We just had a good conversation, talked and they got to know me really well," Jones told reporters. "I really liked their (team) table. It's kind of fun to see how different tables, they act a little different. But the Patriots were really cool and asked some really good questions."
In his first season as a starter, Jones led Alabama to an undefeated record and national championship. He completed 77.4% of his passes for 4,500 yards, 41 touchdowns and four interceptions. Jones is touted for his rapid processing, decision-making and accuracy. He checks in at 6-3 and 217 pounds.
Most media attendees believe Jones improved his draft stock at the Senior Bowl with three sharp practices. He had been regarded as the fourth or fifth-best quarterback in the draft, behind Clemson's Trevor Lawrence, BYU's Zach Wilson, Ohio State's Justin Fields and perhaps North Dakota State's Trey Lance.
Wake Forest quarterback Jamie Newman, a projected mid-round pick, also said he met formally with the Patriots at the Senior Bowl.
