Paul Deon named boys' lacrosse coach at Waterford
Paul Deon, who has enjoyed success at both the high school and collegiate level, has been named Waterford High School's new boys' lacrosse head coach, athletic director Chris Landry announced on Monday.
Deon spent the previous three seasons at the collegiate level as a men's assistant coach at Connecticut College (2020) and Coast Guard Academy (2018-19).
"Coach Deon brings a wealth of lacrosse experience as a successful high school head coach and assistant college coach, and I am confident that he will continue to lead the Waterford boys' lacrosse team to positive and promising seasons in the years to come," Landry said in a school release."
Deon spent four seasons (2006-2009) as an assistant at East Lyme before earning his first head coaching job at Stonington, where he led Bears to three consecutive Eastern Connecticut Conference
Small Division titles (2011-13) during his four seasons and three Class S state tournament semifinal berths (2010, 2011, 2013).
Deon then spent four seasons (2014-17) at Hand High in Madison, guiding the Tigers to three straight Class M championship appearances (201517). His career record in eight seasons as a head coach is 112-48, and he was named Connecticut High School Coaches' Association Head Coach of the Year in 2017 at Hand and the U.S. Lacrosse Class S Coach of the Year in 2011 at Stonington.
Deon also served as chair of the U.S. Lacrosse All-American committee from 2011-13 and was a head coach in the Connecticut Senior All-Star game in 2013 and 2014.
Deon, who lives in Waterford, said, "I'm excited to coach in town and be a part of our community. I would like to thank Chris Landry for giving me that opportunity."
