PRESTON GRAND LIST INCREASES BY 2.8%

-

Preston — The town saw an overall 2.8% increase in the grand list of taxable property over the past year, fueled by a strong jump in motor vehicle values, new housing and a flurry of home improvements, Assessor Mildred Perringer said.

The overall net grand list, with exempt properties removed, for combined real estate, motor vehicle and personal property values totaled $456,382,702 as of Oct. 1, 2020, a $12.4 million increase over the total from 2019.

Real estate values totaled $376,433,980, up by $7.57 million, a 2% increase. Perringer attributed the increase to one new subdivision and new construction townwide, helped by favorable interest rates.

Motor vehicle values had the highest percentage of increase, at 10.5%, totaling $45,436,468. Perringer said that reflects a nationwide trend in new car sales. The value of personal property also increased by nearly $565,000, or 1.6%, to $34,512,254.
