Chester — Sara Sibley Lenhart of Chester, formerly of Lyme, passed away peacefully Feb. 11, 2021, surrounded by her three children. She was born Feb. 28, 1936, in Braintree, Mass., to Arthur and Helen (Avery) Sibley.

She graduated from Wheelock College in 1957 with a bachelor’s degree in Elementary and Early Childhood Education and she taught second grade at Greenwich Country Day School.

Sara married Mark McKown Lenhart in 1958 and devoted her life to raising their three children. She was an avid reader, knitter and quilter, and she volunteere­d for the League of Women Voters and the Girl Scouts. After their children were grown, Sara worked part time at local organizati­ons, including the Mt. Saint John School and Essex Meadows. Following Mark’s retirement from Stone & Webster Engineerin­g Corp., Sara and Mark had fun traveling to their Wheelock and USNA class reunions, visiting their children and grandchild­ren, and walking on their favorite beach at the Chatham Lighthouse.

Sara is predecease­d by her husband, Mark, who died in 2018, and is survived by her children, Alice, Avery and Mark Sibley Lenhart. Sara is also survived by seven grandchild­ren; her brother, Arthur Sibley; and her sister, Laura Rhodes.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributi­ons can be made to the Pilgrim Monument and Provinceto­wn Museum or the charity of your choice. A private memorial service will be held later in the spring.
