‘RANDOM ACTS OF KINDNESS WEEK’ PROCLAIMED IN STONINGTON

-

Stonington — First Selectwoman Danielle Chesebrough is asking residents this week to celebrate “Random Acts of Kindness Week.”

“With all the challenges we have been facing, it is important to take a moment to remember there is still so much kindness in our community. Throughout the week of February 14-21, residents are asked to help share acts of kindness they have seen, as well as put forward new actions,” her office announced.

She suggested checking in on a neighbor, donating items to Pawcatuck Neighborhood

Center or Stonington Community Center, helping to arrange a vaccination appointment for a senior citizen, leaving a few extra dollars at the coffee shop to pay for the next person’s items or mailing a cheery note to a local nursing home for them to share with someone who needs a smile.

To encourage others to become involved, residents are being asked to stop at Town Hall and pick up a “Pay Kindness Forward— tag, you’re it” card, which can be left with the person and/or at the location where they performed the kind gesture. Cards are available on top of the dropbox outside Town Hall on the front steps.

The town also is asking residents to nominate someone whose kindness has touched their lives. Nominations can be submitted at https://docs.google.com/ forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSda-0fCFgVKivTui7NNqqTprOPabEFue0wh3icpN6WxInnStA/viewform through Feb. 21. One random winner will be selected on Feb. 22 to receive a copy of the “Stonington Pop-Up Book,” courtesy of the Ocean Community Chamber of Commerce.

Residents also are being encouraged to share their pictures and stories on social media tag the town (@townofstonington) in their posts and use the #raktag to help magnify this effort.

“A small act of kindness, can make a big difference. Over the course of this week, we hope we can further show just how kind and strong we are, together as a community,” Chesebrough said.
