Anne Duncan

-

— Anne Duncan, best Salem known locally as the ever cheerful, informative and colorful owner of The Salem Herbfarm, died at age 68.

Anne was born Sept. 12, 1952, in Norwich and grew up in Taftville. She met her future husband Joe while he was a student at the Coast Guard Academy. They married in 1973 and traveled extensively during Joe’s years of service.

In 1990 Anne inherited her grandparents’ farm in Salem. Using her lifelong love of gardening and plants, Anne turned the farm into a beautiful and thriving nursery and called it The Salem Herbfarm.

Anne was devoted to her friends and family, especially her seven grandchildren. She followed each of them individually, mentoring them and offering them the total support that only a grandmother can provide. Anne (affectionately known as Mima by the grandkids) was often seen in the Salem School lunchroom, eating lunch with one of her grandchildren and generally helping out.

Anne was preceded in death by her parents, Yvette and Ed Mitchell; and her brother Dennis. She is survived by her husband Joe; son Ben Duncan (Rei); daughter Sara Anthony; a daughter Elizabeth Muscerlli (Joe); and grandchildren, Ethan, Emma, Morgan, Hanna, Natalie, William and Lilly.

Anne Duncan, wife, mother, grandmother and friend, was a beautiful person and a great lady. Anyone who knew her will always remember Anne with a smile.

The family will host a memorial service for Anne at The Salem Herbfarm in late summer 2021.
