GROTON KINDERGARTEN REGISTRATION, NEW SCHOOL LOCATER MAP AVAILABLE
Groton — Groton Public Schools kindergarten registration for the 202122 school year is now open.
Groton families with a child who will be 5 on or before Jan. 1, 2022, may begin kindergarten in September and are encouraged to complete the online registration form at www.grotonschools.org. Families moving to Groton prior to the start of next school year, who have a child entering kindergarten through fifth grade also are encouraged to complete the form. Additional steps for the registration process are outlined online.
Families also are encouraged to visit the new school locater map to find their neighborhood elementary school for next school year.
Two new elementary schools, Mystic
River Active Exploration — Play and Ingenuity — Magnet School and Thames River Environmental and Marine Sciences Magnet School, will open in September.
Three aging elementary schools — Claude Chester, Mary Morrisson and S.B. Butler — will close at the end of this school year. Catherine Kolnaski STEAM Magnet School and Northeast Academy Arts Magnet School will remain open, as will Charles Barnum, which is transitioning to a Discovery — Creativity and Curiosity — themed magnet school.
Groton K-5 students may attend their neighborhood school or apply to one of the other magnet themed schools. The lottery application, which will be available in March on the district website, is separate from the registration form.
“We’ve been on this journey for several years,” Groton Public Schools Superintendent Susan Austin told parents during a virtual information session. “We have our beautiful new Groton Middle School on the top of Fort Hill, and International Baccalaureate campus between Groton Middle School and Fitch High School and if you’ve been by the former middle school sites, you’ll see our two brand new elementary schools being built.”
