MAN FACING ADDITIONAL CHARGES IN POLICE CHASE
A Willimantic man charged by Ledyard police in a home invasion and police chase Friday additionally has been charged by Connecticut State Police.
Juquan Hurt, 25, reportedly showed a firearm during a home invasion in Ledyard Friday afternoon, then fled. Ledyard police informed state police that Hurt’s vehicle was traveling on Route 12 from Preston into Norwich, state police said in a news release Saturday.
Two troopers responded and pursued Hurt onto Route 2 west, where police attempted to box in Hurt’s vehicle. Hurt struck a state police cruiser, damaging it, and fled onto Interstate 395 south, state police said.
Ledyard and state police pursued him, ending up on Route 2 east. Police boxed in Hurt’s vehicle, bringing it to a stop. Hurt then struck a Ledyard police cruiser, left his vehicle and fled on foot, state police said. He was apprehended after about a 100-yard chase, they said.
During the roughly 2-mile pursuit, the vehicles’ speed reached 80 mph, according to the news release. Traffic backups on Route 2 caused a separate crash, in which one car caught on fire.
In addition to charges by town police, state police charged Hurt with interfering with an officer/resisting arrest, disobeying the signal of an officer, reckless driving, two counts of first-degree criminal mischief and two counts of attempted assault on a police officer.
He was released on a $50,000 nonsurety bond on those charges but was being held by Ledyard police on the other charges.
