Sun hire Nicole Alexander as new head athletic trainer.

Mohegan — The Connecticu­t Sun hired Nicole Alexander as the team's new head athletic trainer on Friday.

"We are excited about the addition of Nicole to our staff,” said Curt Miller, head coach and general manager. “She comes highly recommende­d by numerous stakeholde­rs in the women's basketball community including USA Basketball. She has hit the ground running and has been grinding in preparatio­n for our fast approachin­g 2021 season."

Alexander had been an athletic trainer with the UNC Family Medicine Center at Durham and as the head athletic trainer for women's basketball at the University of North Carolina. She also spent five years with Notre Dame as an assistant athletic trainer.

Her additional experience includes three years as the head athletic trainer for USA Basketball. During the summer of 2018 and 2019 Alexander served as the trainer for the U17 and U19 World Cup, respective­ly. In 2015, she held the head trainer position for women's basketball at the World University Games.

“I am very excited to be a part of the Sun family,” said Alexander. “I have been given the opportunit­y to join a team that is at the top of their game both on the court and in the community. I can't wait to stand side-by-side with the players and staff.”

College baseball

• Kyler Fedko hit a pair of solo home runs as UConn beat Rhode Island 9-6. Reggie Crawford doubled and drove in two runs, Erik Stock had two doubles, Chris Winkel homered and Stonington's Kevin Ferrer doubled and drove in a run for UConn (8-11). The Sunday game between the teams was moved to a Saturday doublehead­er at Elliot Ballpark in Storrs, starting at 1 p.m.

College softball

• Mitchell College lost to Rhode Island College 14-4 in a six-inning nonleague game. Nene Capeles was 2-for-3 with a double, two runs scored and two RBI and Sydney Oatway was 3-for-3 with a double for Mitchell (2-5).

Men's lacrosse

• Jon Olson scored five goals and had eight assists as Albertus Magnus beat Mitchell 15-9 on Thursday. Joe Schley led Mitchell (1-3) with three goals and Jade Shields and Lisbon's Ryan Foster each had two goals and an assist.
