Around the region

• East Lyme's Alexandra Rose, a goalie for the Endicott College women's lacrosse team, made a career-high 16 saves in a 12-5 loss to No. 18 Trinity on Wednesday and also had four saves in a 24-6 win over Salve Regina Saturday, earning the Commonwealth Coast Conference Defensive Player of the Week honors.

• Ledyard graduate Ken Turner, The Day's 2019 All-Area Baseball Player of the Year, has struck out 21 in 12 innings of work this season for Hartford. In two starts, the sophomore righthander has allowed nine hits and five earned runs and walked two while posting a 3.75 earned run average.

• Eastern Connecticut State University catcher Matt Malcolm, a junior from East Lyme, was recently named to the D3baseball.com team of the week for games from March 15-21. He went 3-for-6 with two home runs, three RBI and four runs scored in a doubleheader sweep of Saint Joseph's of Maine. He also threw out a runner attempting to steal.

• Alexis Michon, a freshman on the Plymouth State softball team, made her collegiate debut against No. 15 ECSU on Thursday, playing in both games of a doubleheader. In a 10-0 loss in the first game, Michon, a Montville graduate, walked twice, batting leadoff and playing shortstop. She was the starting pitcher in the second game, going 6.1 innings and allowing nine hits, seven runs while striking out six and walking one. At the plate, she had a single and scored two runs in a 7-3 loss.

• Norwich Free Academy graduate Julie Vincent, a sophomore on the Rhode Island College softball team, doubled and drove in a run in a 14-4 win over Mitchell College on Friday. Through four games, Vincent is 3-for-7 with three runs scored and two walks.

• East Lyme graduate Hannah Miller is a freshman member of the Seattle Pacifc rowing team.

• Senior Buddy Dewaine, a Montville graduate, had a big day at the plate in Central Connecticut State University's 21-7 rout of Fairleigh Dickinson on Friday, going 3-for-5 with six RBI and four runs scored. He had two doubles and a two-run home run. Through 12 games, he's batting .354 with two homers and 11 RBI. He leads the team in hits (17) and runs scored (14).

• Waterford's Sara Buscetto is one of the top players on the Southern Connecticut State University softball team. She's batting .344 with a home run and seven RBI through 10 games. She is 12 for 13 in stolen base attempts. Junior first baseman Jayden Delaporta, a Fitch graduate, also has started all 10 games, batting .296 with seven RBI.

• Senior Michael Parker (Bacon), senior Kyle Cardoza (Waterford) and freshman Scott Galbo (East Lyme) have helped the ECSU men's lacrosse team win three of its first four games. Cardoza has three goals and three assists.

• Former Lyman Memorial standout Colton Bender, a senior catcher for the Quinnipiac baseball team, is batting .321 with a home run and four RBI in eight games.

• Senior Abigail Horner has a team-high tying seven points on three goals and a team-best four assists through two games for the Saint Joseph women's lacrosse team while fellow East Lyme graduate Taya Valdez, a junior, has five goals.

• University of Rhode Island pitcher Trystan Levesque, a freshman from East Lyme, has allowed just four hits and one run in his last five appearances covering 10 innings. In his last outing, he threw three scoreless and hitless innings and struck out three to earn his first career win in a 6-4 decision at UConn on Saturday. He's made a team-high tying nine appearances overall, including two starts.

Tracking the Bears

• Coast Guard Academy sophomore Caleb Holdridge, a Waterford graduate, was named to the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference weekly honor roll for men's lacrosse. He had a game-high six goals and added an assist and three ground balls in a 14-13 win at Springfield in Saturday's season opener.

• The baseball team's bats heated up fast this season, as the Bears (3-1) scored six or more runs in each of the first four games. Sophomore Justin Stasiak had an impressive 10 hits in his first 15 at-bats. He's had two three-hit games and two two-hit games.

• The Coast Guard softball team is off to a strong 4-0 start under the guidance of interim head coach Arielle Cooper, a Fitch graduate. Sophomores Kayla Yoshioka Montalvo and Mariah Dewey are powering the offense, batting .643 (9 for 14) and .600 (9 for 15), respectively. Dewey leads the team in home runs with two and she's tied for the lead in RBI with six.

Mariners riding a wave

• Mitchell College's Roland Thivierge and Joe Schley were honored by the New England Collegiate Conference for their efforts last week. Thivierge was named the conference's pitcher of the week for baseball after winning his third game this season, allowing five hits in seven innings while striking out seven in an 8-2 win over Trinity. It was his 15th career victory. Schley, the conference rookie of the week in men's lacrosse, scored a hat trick in a non-conference loss to Albertus Magnus. He has a team-high 10 goals.

Camel highlights

• Seniors Toby Almeida, Matt Connolly, Jake Simon and junior Nick Farnham are the captains for the Connecticut College men's lacrosse team this spring. The Camels have played one game so far, beating Nichols College, 19-10, on Saturday. Sophomore Joey Bradley led the way with four goals while Farnham had three goals and two assists, Gus Mazzocca had two goals and three assists and Waterford's Logan Bowdish added three goals.
