Mystic — David E. Parkinson, 68, devoted husband and dedicated father, teacher, coach and grandfathe­r died Friday, March 26, 2021, in Tampa, Fla., following a brief illness. He was formerly of Pawcatuck, and the husband of 44 years to Susan (Pounch) Parkinson.

Born in Northampto­n, Mass., he was the son of the late Leonard and Gertrude (Hadro) Parkinson and was raised in Amherst, Mass.

David was a science teacher for the Stonington public school system for 35 years up until his retirement. During his time at the high school, he coached the football and golf team for many years. Following his retirement, David resided in Mystic and Sarasota, Fla., during the winter months.

He was an avid golfer and a member of the Stonington Country Club, a faithful Boston sports fan and also enjoyed skiing.

In addition to his wife Susan, he leaves his two sons, Jeffrey Parkinson (Tara) of Gales Ferry and Matthew Parkinson of New York, N.Y.; his two brothers, Thomas and James Parkinson (Donna and Karen); and three grandchild­ren, Madysen, Sawyer and Harper.

His family will receive relatives and friends from 3 to 5 p.m. Monday, April 5, at the Mystic Funeral Home located on Route 1 in Mystic. Social distancing guidelines will be in place when entering the funeral home. Funeral services and burial will be held privately.

A donation in his memory may be made to the American Alzheimer’s Associatio­n.
