15 DISPLACED FROM NEW LONDON FIRE
New London — A fire that broke out in the two-family house at 15 Jefferson Ave. on Thursday evening displaced 15 people, New London Fire Chief Thomas Curcio said. The American Red Cross is assisting the residents.
Curcio said four or five people were home when the fire started, but no residents or firefighters were injured. He said people are displaced from both units.
The second-alarm fire was called in at 7:10 p.m., and firefighters arrived to find a lot of fire coming out the back porch door, Curcio said. First responders had the fire knocked down in about 10 minutes.
Curcio said the fire was located on the first floor toward the rear of the house, and there is heavy damage to some of the rear rooms of the house.
The fire marshal is investigating the cause of the fire, which closed Jefferson Avenue in the vicinity. The New London Fire Department also got coverage from Waterford, Groton Ambulance, the Poquonnock Bridge Fire FAST Team, and the Submarine Base Fire Department FAST Team.
