MOBILE UNIT TO HELP PEOPLE APPLY FOR ASSISTANCE MAKES STOPS IN REGION

A mobile van to help people apply for the state’s UniteCT rental and utility assistance program also will visit Groton, Pawcatuck, New London, Old Saybrook and Jewett City this month, in addition to stops in Norwich.

The bus will help people, who may not have a computer or who may need technology help, to apply for the rent and utility assistance program.

The program provides up to $10,000 in financial assistance for past-due rent and up to $1,500 for electric utility assistance to households impacted by the pandemic. The program will support households at or below 80% of the HUD Area Median Income.

In the region, the mobile van will visit the following sites:

Today: Stanton Elementary School, 386 New London Turnpike, Norwich, from 10 a.m. to noon; 155 Providence St., Taftville, from 2 to 4 p.m.

Friday: 226 E. Main St., Jewett City, from noon to 5 p.m.

Monday, April 19: St. Vincent de Paul Place soup kitchen, 120 Cliff St., Norwich, from 9 a.m. to noon; TVCCA office, 401 W. Thames St., Norwich, from 1 to 5 p.m.

Thursday, April 22: 366 Main St., Old Saybrook, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.; 295 Meridian St., Groton, from 2 to 5 p.m.

Friday, April 23: 2 Fort Hill Road, Groton, from 9 a.m. to noon; 226 East Main St., Jewett City, from 1 to 5 p.m.

Tuesday, April 27: 27 Chase St., Pawcatuck, from 9 a.m. to noon; 120 Broad St., New London, from 1 to 4 p.m.

Thursday, April 29: 346 Shennecoss­ett Road, Groton, from 9 a.m. to noon; 2 Fort Hill Road, Groton, from 1 to 5 p.m.

United Way of Southeaste­rn Connecticu­t and the state Department of Housing together will bring the truck hosting 10 computers and 2 UniteCT staff members to assist clients in accessing the online applicatio­n for the rental and utility assistance program.

SOMERS TO HOLD VIRTUAL COFFEE HOUR THURSDAY

State Sen. Heather Somers, R-Groton, will hold a virtual coffee hour on Thursday from 9 to 10 a.m.

The event will be held on Zoom, and those wishing register should email Erika.Pocock@cga.ct.gov.

Somers represents the 18th District, which includes Griswold, Groton, North Stonington, Plainfield, Preston, Sterling, Stonington and Voluntown.
