No. 2 Waterford softball team outlasts Ledyard in battle of ECC unbeatens

Waterford — Angela Colonis and Anna Dziecinny had two hits apiece Tuesday and the Waterford High School softball team remained unbeaten with a 7-4 win over Ledyard in an Eastern Connecticu­t Conference Division I game on Tuesday.

Emilia Podeszwa and Brynn Holmes each tripled and drove in runs for the Lancers (5-0, 4-0), ranked second in the GameTimeCT/ New Haven Register poll. Winning pitcher Maddie Burrows also struck out four.

Sam Money had three hits and two runs scored for Ledyard (5-1, 5-1) while Shaylin Williams doubled and tripled.

In other games:

• Frankie Foster stole home to score the go-ahead run in the bottom of the sixth inning as Fitch edged Stonington, 4-3, in an ECC Division I game. Charlotte Cabral pitched a five-hitter with eight strikeouts and added two hits for Fitch (5-1, 5-1) and Alyson Cabral had two hits. Madelyn Stepski had two hits for the Bears (0-1, 0-1).

• Kassidy LaTour went 3-for-4 in Lyman Memorial's 18-6 loss to Woodstock Academy in ECC Div. II. Rylee Benway and Madi Crawford also had multiple-hit days for Lyman (3-2, 3-2).

• Griswold scored 11 runs in the first inning and defeated St. Bernard, 22-1, in ECC Div. II. Kaelin Waldron struck out 11 for the Wolverines (7-0, 7-0) while Sonja Matheson had four RBI and Nakayla Neilson had three hits. Angelina Tompkins had a two out triple and scored for the Saints (0-5, 0-5).

• Addie Hauptmann went 5-for5 with two doubles and three RBI as Wheeler defeated Tourtellot­te, 13-4,in ECC Div. II. Reese Main and MaKayla Delzer had three hits apiece for the Lions (4-3, 4-3).

Boys' golf

• Bacon's Dave Tremblay shot a low-round 44 to lead Bacon Academy past Plainfield, 7-0, in an ECC Division II match. Lucas Baldinger shot a 46, Connor Tuttle a 49 and Nate Harasimowi­tz a 52 for Bacon (2-0, 2-0).

• Nick Hynes shot 40 and Danny Torres shot 41 as Waterford defeated New London, 7-0, in an ECC Div. I match. The Lancers are 4-1, 4-0. Zach Stock shot 42 for the Whalers (0-5, 0-4).

• Fletcher Balaro earned medalist honors for Norwich Tech in its 218-249 win over O'Brien Tech in a Connecticu­t Technical Conference match. Joshua Lavender shot a 52 for Norwich Tech (2-1) and Joshua James shot a 56.

• Logan Gagnon shot a 38 as Killingly swept Griswold, 7-0, in its ECC Division II opener. Cooper Morissette shot a 40 for Killingly (3-0, 1-0) and Ethan Lackner and Cameron Seiffert both shot a 42. Lucas Hanley shot a 49 and Matt Ladd a 53 for the Wolverines (3-1, 2-1).

• Medalist Nathan Sylvestre shot 49 and Grasso Tech defeated Goodwin Tech 229-232 in the CTC. Charles Morrison shot 52 for the Eagles.

Girls' golf

• Kailey LaChapelle shot a 46 for Woodstock in its 207-260 ECC win over NFA. Caitlin Daley shot a 59 for NFA (1-1, 1-1).

• East Lyme's Julia Kahl was the medalist with a 49 as the Vikings beat Bacon Academy 232-250 in an ECC match on Monday. Agnelia Rheaume shot a 55 and Sarah Healy had a 59 for East Lyme (2-1, 2-1). Emma Hajdasz led Bacon (0-3, 0-3) with a 51.

Girls' track

• Maddy Morgado won the 1,600 for Old Lyme in its 69-64 loss to Coginchaug. Alyssa Spooner on the 400 and Emma Boardman won the high jump for the Wildcats.

Boys' track

• Dylan Hovey won the 3,200 and Old Lyme lost to Coginchaug, 90-50. Nevin Joshy won the 200 and Dylan Sheehan won the discus for Old Lyme.
