Fitch girls sweep singles and beat Vikings

Groton — Julia Meilguj, Haley Rodgers, Hayden Kowalski and Fiona Kennedy won singles matches as Fitch defeated East Lyme, 5-2, in an Eastern Connecticu­t Conference Division I girls' tennis match on Tuesday.

Charlotte Carney and Ariana Timmerman added a win at No. 3 doubles for the Falcons (3-1, 2-1).

The doubles teams of Alissa Li-Ella Arustei and Avery Rindell-Jeanette Liu won for the Vikings (3-2, 2-2). In other matches:

• Sarah Hage, Autumn Brothers, Alli Silva and Maple Siu all won in straight sets as Waterford swept New London, 7-0, in an ECC Division I match. Waterford is 5-1 (5-1). The Whalers are 0-5 (0-4).

• Anna Slopak, Sarah Ericson and Emily Egger won in singles and Norwich Free Academy defeated Ledyard, 5-2, in ECC Div. I. Jenissa Varela-Laura Danieluk and Shala Roche-Cassidy White won in doubles for NFA (3-2, 3-2). Claire Fenaughty-Laura Pellowski won No. 3 doubles for Ledyard (2-3, 1-3).

• Norwich Tech won its first match of the season, beating Prince Tech 5-2 in the Connecticu­t Technical Conference. Kara Espinosa, Amber Kerby, Lily Armstrong and Alyssa Mikolajcza­k won in singles for the Warriors.

• St. Bernard's Zhuning Gao won a three-hour match 7-5, 4-6, 6-2 at No. 2 singles during the Saints' 4-3 loss to Killingly in an ECC Division II match Meri Kambolli added a win at No. 4 singles for St. Bernard (2-2, 2-1) while Ona Parfitt-Ava Little rallied for a 3-6, 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 3 doubles.

Boys

• Ian Balfour, Quinn Haglund and Mason Baez all won their singles matches for Waterford in its 6-1 win over New London in an ECC Division I match.

The Lancers (2-3, 2-3) received doubles wins from the teams of Gabe Parent-Corey Sammataro, Noah Westkott-Max Whitlock and Sam Pennington-Alistair Haglund. Wesly Paulo rallied to win the number No. 1 singles match in three sets for the Whalers (0-3-1, 0-3-1).

• Sujesh Kurumbail won No. 1 singles as East Lyme defeated Fitch, 7-0, in an early-season matchup of ECC Division I unbeatens. Daniel Sapoznikov, Guillem Colom and Additya Kabra also won in singles for the Vikings (5-0, 4-0). Fitch is 3-1, 2-1.

• Tucker Callahan won No. 1 singles and Stonington defeated Woodstock Academy, 7-0. Matthew Turrisi, Jackson Colon and Chase Williams also won in singles for the Bears (3-0).

• Gage Goodwin, Liam Peters and Zach Kobyluck won the top three singles matches respective­ly as St. Bernard tied Killingly, 3-3, in an ECC Division II match. The Saints are 1-21, 1-1-1.
