NEW LONDON SCHOOL OFFICIAL PLACED ON LEAVE
New London — The assistant director at Bennie Dover Jackson Middle School has been placed on administrative leave.
Robert A. Stacy, executive director of talent & human resources for New London Public Schools, said by email Tuesday evening that Janet Farquhar “has been placed on Administrative Leave with Pay while we investigate information brought to our attention today.”
“This is a personnel matter and the district will have no further comment at this time,” Stacy added.
He did not say whether the investigation is related to a Sunday arrest of a Janet Farquhar.
Janet Farquhar, 51, of 18 Race Rock Road, Waterford, is facing charges of operating under the influence and failure to drive right, after she was pulled over by East Lyme police on Sunday. East Lyme dispatchers received two calls on Sunday reporting a possibly impaired driver, with one of the callers following the vehicle and providing location information, according to a police report.
Police said they stopped the driver of the vehicle on Flanders Road, just south of Society Road, and the driver failed a standardized field sobriety test and was taken into custody. The driver failed chemical testing of her breath performed at the Waterford Police Department. The incident occurred about 4:43 p.m. Sunday.
Farquhar was later released on a $500 nonsurety bond and is due in New London Superior Court on June 9, according to the report.
Farquhar could not immediately be reached for comment.
