Ann E. Homand

Ledyard — Ann E. (Schram) Homand, 81, of Ledyard passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loved ones April 24, 2021. She was the wife of retired veteran Francis Homand; they were married 59 wonderful years. Ann was born Jan. 1, 1940 in St. Cloud, Minn., to Ralph and Anna Schram.

Ann leaves behind her husband, Francis; her son, Mark and his wife Francine and their three children, Ryan and wife Lauren, Tyler, and Amy Day and husband Colton.

She had a love for life and thoroughly embraced every season that crossed her path. She was very involved in scouting when her son was young as a Den Leader and held that position for 18 years. She loved all her “Scouting children” and treated each one with love and affection. Many projects were accomplished in their family room with the help of her husband, who was also a leader. It was always about giving the proper training to those kids. She touched many lives through scouting and will be fondly remembered by so many.

Francis and Ann were pen-pals for six years before meeting face-to-face and were married on their first encounter, a true love story. They first lived in California then moved to Virginia where she worked as a presser in a dry cleaner. They traveled throughout the U.S. being a Navy family. They landed in Ledyard in 1972, and both Ann and Francis worked at Electric Boat. Ann was a pipe fitter and Francis was a rigger. She loved EB the most and said it was her favorite job. She met many wonderful people that she would never forget and mentioned often in conversations. She ended up retiring from Mohegan Sun Casino in 2005 and enjoyed 16 years of retirement.

Visiting hours will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. April 30, 2021, at Byles Memorial Home, 99 Huntington St., New London, followed by burial at Avery Stoddard Cemetery in Ledyard. A meal following the burial will be held at Grace House, 20 Grove Ave., Groton.
