Montville, Stonington spilt high-scoring doubleheader
Stonington — Amanda Corrice had three hits and scored twice as Montville beat Stonington 15-11 in the first game of an Eastern Connecticut Conference Division I softball doubleheader on Saturday.
Stonington won the second game, 10-9.
Maggie Wainwright had two hits, including a home run, in the first game for Montville (5-3, 5-3) while Taryn Feragne and Jillian Murallo each added a home run. Tori LoPresto went 4-for-5, including three doubles, with three RBI, Maddy Stepski had three hits and two RBI, and Phoebe Werling had two hits and three runs for the Bears (2-2, 2-2).
Carly Constantine had two hits and three RBI and Payton Lowe hit a tworun single for Stonington in the second game. Carli LoPresto went 3-for4 with two RBI for the Bears. Rori Cullen went 5-for-5, including a home run, for the Indians and Brooke Taylor hit a home run and scored twice. In other games:
• Lexi Thompson pitched a three-hitter with 13 strikeouts and added a triple as Woodstock Academy edged previously unbeaten Griswold, 1-0, in an ECC Division II game. Mackenzie Leveille had two hits for Woodstock (7-2, 6-0). Kaelin Waldron pitched a three-hitter with 15 strikeouts and added two hits, including a double, for the Wolverines (8-1, 8-1).
• Rayne Bobbi went 3-for-3, including a home run, with seven RBI and three runs as Lyman Memorial scored 13 times in the bottom of the third inning to overwhelm Plainfield, 23-4, in five innings in the first game of an ECC Division II doubleheader sweep. Lyman won the second game 20-4. Kayla Goins had a home run, four runs and four RBI, Loretta Svedarsky went 3-for-3 with two runs and an RBI and Kelsey Dunnack had a double, three RBI and two runs in the first game for Lyman (5-2, 5-2). Rylee Benway also went 3-for-3 with three runs and an RBI.
• Windham swept Wheeler 10-3 and 11-3 in an ECC Division II doubleheader. Addie Hauptmann went 3-for-3, including a double and a home run, with two RBI and two runs and Molly Butremovic went 2-for-3 with an RBI in the first game for Wheeler (4-5, 4-5). Keelan Groves also singled and scored. In Game 2, Hauptmann had two doubles, two RBI and a run, Butremovic had two hits and two runs, and Kaycee Fonnemann had a single and an RBI for the Lions.
• Alexis Faucher and Emma Carpenter both pitched a one-hitter with six strikeouts as Killingly swept St. Bernard 20-2 and 18-0 in an ECC Division II doubleheader. Abby Jarrard singled in both games for the Saints (0-7, 0-7).
