Bufmack’s game-saving catch helps Falcons sweep Colonels
Groton — Jackson Bufmack made a sensational diving catch in left field with two outs in the top of the seventh and a runner at third to preserve Fitch's 5-4 win over Ledyard in the second game of its Eastern Connecticut Conference Division I baseball doubleheader sweep on Saturday.
Fitch won the first game, 4-2.
Matt Robinson and Tate Scherer each had two hits, a run and an RBI for Fitch (6-1, 6-1) and Ramiro Zavala added a hit, a run and an RBI. Braydon Wuestner went 3-for-3 and scored, Zion Fraser had two hits, a run and an RBI, and Julian Muntimuri had a single, a run and an RBI for the
Colonels (2-6, 2-6).
Zavala had a double and RBI, Dylan Meyer had a hit and an RBI and Anthony Franco had a run and an RBI in the first game for the Falcons. Cian Sullivan had two hits, a run and an RBI for the Colonels and Robert Moynihan pitched a two-hitter with 11 strikeouts, five walks and four earned runs.

• Carter Chambers went 2-for-2, including a double, with three runs and an RBI as East Lyme beat New London, 13-6, in the first game of an ECC Division I doubleheader sweep. Gavin O'Brien went 3-for-4 with two runs,
Owen Elmer had a hit, two runs and an RBI and Ben Sartori had a double, a run and an RBI for East Lyme (5-4, 5-4). Kenny Miller had three hits, a run and an RBI, Anthony Martinez had two hits, including a double, and scored, and Anthony Germoso had a single and two RBI for the Whalers (0-10, 0-9).
Aidan Ellis had two hits, including a double, with four RBI as East Lyme won the second game, 9-5. Carter Chambers had a home run, two runs and an RBI, Quinn Killoy went 3-for3 with two runs and an RBI, and John Bureau and Elmer both had a hit, a run and an RBI for the Vikings. Miller had three hits, two runs and an RBI, Sean Raymond had two hits and two RBI and Giovanni Galatioto had a double and an RBI for New London.
• Chris Cullen had five hits as Montville swept Stonington, 12-2 and 14-0, in an ECC Division I game. Justin Saad and Chas Terni each had four hits, including a home run, for the Montville (5-3, 5-3) and Miles Sarmiento added four hits. The Bears (0-9, 0-9) had just three hits over the two games.
• Matt Pierce had two hits, a run and an RBI as Wheeler edged Windham, 5-4, in the second game of its ECC Division II doubleheader. Sean Bergel was the winning pitcher for the Lions (2-6, 2-6). Windham won the opener, 7-4. Kyle Kessler and Pierce each had a hit, a run and an RBI for the Lions and Bergel added three hits.
• Hayden LeClair had three hits, three runs and three RBI in the second game of Plainfield's 7-5, 13-6 sweep over Lyman Memorial in an ECC Division II doubleheader. Daylen Griffen had two RBI and Jared Russo scored twice in the opener for Lyman (2-6, 2-6). In the second game, Owen Zimnock had two RBI for Lyman and Joe Bittman, Jeremiah Bobbi and Sam Cardinal all doubled.
• Bo Yaworski pitched a two-hitter with 11 strikeouts in the first game of Killingly's 10-0 and 9-1 sweep of St. Bernard in an ECC Division II doubleheader. Ben Jax had three RBI in the first game for Killingly and Trevin Russ had two RBI in the second game. The Saints are 4-5, 4-5.
