Salem — Gerald Daniel “Jerry” Munro, 86, passed away peacefully May 2, 2021, at home in Salem. Gerald was born in The Renton, Scotland, on Aug. 31, 1934, the son of John Munro and Margaret Kennedy Munro. He immigrated to Connecticu­t from Scotland as a young man after serving a five-year apprentice­ship for bricklayin­g.

Following his bricklayin­g years Gerald opened his ladies’ clothing store “Gerald’s Designer Discounts” in Mystic, and then in Groton. He was an avid military collector and published author of many poems and historical fiction. Gerald served many years on the Board of Saint Andrew’s Society of Connecticu­t, where his love of Scotland was an inspiratio­n. Privately, Gerald enjoyed caring for his pets and ensuring the local wild birds were well fed.

Gerald is survived by his wife, Pamela; daughter Kennedy Munro, Esq.; son-in-law James Campbell Pilcher; and his sisters, Marguerite Befumo of Naples, Fla., and Leonora McPhail of Renton, Scotland. He will also be missed by his nephews, Jeffrey McPhail, Austin McPhail, Douglas Reed; and nieces, Hilary Hegney, Lorraine Sanders and Denise James, along with many grandniece­s and grandnephe­ws. Gerald was predecease­d by his brother Stanley Kennedy; sister Jaqueline MacGregor; and nephew Gerald Delagrange.

Services will be held at the convenienc­e of the family.
