Griswold — Paul Whitehead, Sept. 10, 1940 — Jan. 25,

2022, was born and raised in Griswold, to Florence (Lukoff) Whitehead and William Whitehead. He is survived by his wife Doris of 63 years; his children, Jessica Anne Goodrich, Don Paul Whitehead and Claire Gionet; grandchildren, Alexander and Nathanial Erdmann and Victoria LaBonte and Jordan Gionet; great-grandchildren, Audrey and Laura Erdmann; also his sister Alice Dessaules.

Paul was not only a loving husband and devoted family man, he was well known and respected in Voluntown, where he and Doris raised their family. Paul went to trade and masonry school, and worked at Electric Boat for 46 years, working his way up to instrumentation engineer. He completed many submarine sea trials, including the Nautilus, Sante Fe and the Columbia.

Paul loved the political arena and served his community on the Voluntown Democratic Town Committee and Board of Education, and Voluntown Selectman’s Office. He also was a deputy sheriff and justice of the peace. An avid reader, Paul was known for his love of words and vocabulary.

Paul’s greatest love was his wife and family. He took great pride staying in touch with everyone and his friends through his 81 years.

A Celebration of Life will be held this spring. Please leave your messages to Doris and his family in the Tribute section of Gagne-Piechowski Funeral Home online. A tree may be planted in his name, or a donation to the American Cancer Society or Connecticut Audubon Society made in his memory.
