Waterford boys topple Ledyard in ECC Div. II; No. 9 NFA boys cruise

Waterford — Jordan Elci had 14 points, 10 rebounds, four assists and three steals as Waterford downed Ledyard 67-43 on Saturday night in an Eastern Connecticu­t Conference Division II boys' basketball game.

Sean O'Connell had 12 points, 10 rebounds, six blocks and four assists, Logan Peabody had 12 points and four assists and Nolan Gollsneide­r scored 15 for Waterford (12-4, 5-2).

Dorrell Cagle scored 10 for the Colonels (7-7, 2-4).

In other games:

• Nazir Rembert had 31 points as No. 9 Norwich Free Academy blitzed New Britain in the second and third quarter of its 86-47 nonleague win. Javen Foster had 17 points and 11 rebounds and Tyrone Cannon scored 16 with nine rebounds for NFA (132), which outscored the Golden Hurricanes 52-13 over the second and third quarters.

• Kevin Saintvil-Ravix had 11 points, five rebounds and five steals as Fitch beat Masuk 55-49 in a nonleague game. Van Spruill had nine points and six rebounds for Fitch (6-8).

• Amistad of New Haven outlasted New London 65-60 in a nonleague game. Rhodia Perry scored 19 points to lead the Whalers (9-6), who have lost four straight, while Coby Smith finished with 16 Da'Shaun Phillips 10 and Savahn Warren eight. Amistad is 9-3.

Girls' basketball

• Kasey Cook and Kassidy LaTour scored 14 points apiece as Lyman Memorial defeated Wheeler 50-45 in overtime in an ECC Division IV game.

Lyman is 9-8, 5-1, and remains just a game behind St. Bernard in the Division IV race.

Addie Hauptmann made 9 of 11 free throws for 17 points with 19 rebounds for the Lions (6-11, 2-4) and Marissa Perkins had 12 rebounds and 11 rebounds. Also, Maddie Perkins had seven steals.

• Anne Drago had 17 points, nine rebounds and two steals in Stonington's 44-34 nonleague win over Morgan.

Sophia Fernholz had 11 points, 12 rebounds and three assists for Stonington (8-8) and Gabby Dimock finished with 12 points, 11 rebounds and three steals.

Wrestling

• Mason Concascia (152 pounds) won all three of his matches by pin for Waterford, which hosts its annual Lancers Duals. Waterford beat Manchester (39-30) and lost to Bunnell (39-35) and Southingto­n (5824). Lukas Turner (145) and Devon Powers (170) both won twice by pin for the Lancers (6-15) and Lucas Gannotti (132) won by pin and decision.

• Connor DeVega (138) went 4-0 with three first period pins as NFA went 3-1 at the South Windsor Groundhog Duals. The Wildcats (156) defeated Brookfield (46-31), NW Regional (77-6) and Newington (840) while losing to Hall (50-21).

• Melakai Maddox (160) won all three of his matches, including two by pin, for Fitch as it beat Darien (42-36) and St. Joseph (42-30) and lost to Fairfield Warde (73-6) in a quad match. John Luethy (182) won twice by pin for Fitch (4-9).

Boys' fencing

• Benjamin Tan won all six of his bouts to lead East Lyme's boys' varsity foil past both New London and NFA by a score of 7-2. Andrew Mendez won three of his bouts for New London in its 7-2 win over NFA. East Lyme beat both New London and NFA by a score of 5-4 in boys' epee. Wilbur Mack and Falens Joseph both won six of their bouts as New London beat NFA, 6-3.

Girls' fencing

• Junior Malayshia Brown won six times for New London as it beat both East Lyme and NFA by a score of 7-2 in the foil. East Lyme beat NFA in the foil (5-4) and epee (7-2).
